The Tragedy Of Afghanistan

15 08 2021

  By Timothy D. Naegele[1]

The photo below is of a young Afghan woman who was disfigured years ago.  Her turmoil was discussed here[2]; and her plight is cited again, because what happened to her may be illustrative of what happens to so many Afghan women and young girls in the days and months to come.  They will be raped, disfigured and become sexual slaves of the Taliban.  It will be as if the gates of Hell have been opened wide to them, and there is no mercy or kindness in this world.

The same thing happened in Syria and in the countries of Africa; and human trafficking is a fact of life in the United States and globally.[3]  Also, the harvesting of human body parts is real and happens every day in Mexico and elsewhere.[4]  Some of us are so repulsed by such thoughts that we say prayers for the victims, but turn our attentions elsewhere.  We need to stay as positive as possible in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic that has claimed so many lives, and hurt others physically, psychologically and economically.[5]

Historically, Mujahideen fighters helped the United States drive the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan, which led to the collapse of the “Evil Empire” ultimately.  Instead of helping them, Congress turned its back, just like it abandoned our allies in Vietnam.  The Mujahideen fighters morphed into today’s Taliban, who quite naturally have hated Americans ever since, after being betrayed.[6]

Seared into the memories of some of us are the images of people being airlifted from the roof of our embassy in Saigon, before Vietnam fell, which has been occurring in Kabul as America abandons that doomed capital too.[7]  And then there was the day when we turned on our TVs to watch the twin towers collapsing in New York City on 9/11, as well as the Pentagon—where I had worked—being attacked, and the passenger jet crashing in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.[8]

It has been written that the fall of Afghanistan and the slaughter there, and the raping and enslavement of Afghan women and young girls, will haunt the Democrats for a generation.  Surely, it is the defining moment of the failed Biden-Harris presidency, just as Lyndon Johnson could not run for reelection in the wake of the Vietnam tragedy.[9]  Like the image below, at the very least the fall of Afghanistan may produce scenes that are never forgotten by Americans or others globally.

Lastly, the open question is whether the fall of Afghanistan and America’s humiliation will create or trigger a “domino effect,” whereby other countries in the region (or globally) fall, which have been our allies?  Obituaries will be written for decades to come, and the victors will write theirs.[10] But right now our prayers are with our friends in Afghanistan who will suffer terribly.  Some will wonder where a loving God is, in the midst of so much madness.

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND

America has few friends or allies left in this world. We have not done much to develop or cultivate long relationships with other nations, particularly developing nations. We have lots of foreign aid, that is money we send to often corrupt leadership abroad. In some cases like Afghanistan, We just go in, take control for awhile, and later take leave as things fall apart. This is our foreign affairs policy and its why nobody really likes us for long.

The lack of strong allies is one reason why this country is increasingly finding itself isolated in the world. We continue to become embroiled in our domestic politics and affairs and become unconcerned with the changing world order surrounding us. Classic Empire in decline. At home, its provincialism and small worlds that occupy our minds and interests.

Thank you, Craig, as always.

Yes, I agree. Meanwhile, China—which launched the Coronavirus globally—is moving methodically to achieve global domination.

With Brain Dead Joe as our President, and Willie Brown’s ho Kamala waiting in the wings to assume the presidency, how can any American or ally globally trust our great nation, certainly at the moment.

Again, the pendulum swings; and Afghanistan may become Biden’s Vietnam, the defining moment of his presidency and the beginning of the end.

Thank you, Ray, as always.

At the moment, my attention is riveted on (1) the fall of Afghanistan and the plight of Afghans at the hands of the sadistic Taliban fighters; (2) the end of the Biden-Harris presidency; (3) the hatred of Americans globally, because of Joe Biden’s declining mental capacity and his policy failures; (4) the implications for our allies in the Middle East and globally, who will not trust us anymore; (5) the plight of Afghan women and young girls who will be raped, disfigured and enslaved by the Taliban; and (6) the earthquake that has hit Haiti, killing and injuring more of the long-suffering people of that island nation.

I will add the article to my list though. 😊

Look carefully at the photo below, which sums up the failed Biden presidency . . . other than one of Afghan women and young girls with fear on their faces—who are NOT on this flight, and who may be raped and enslaved by the Taliban.

AMERICA’S CONFIDENCE GAME

We are in a downtrend with no easy way out. Biden will remain in-office until the Democratic Party decides otherwise. In the meantime, we are now stuck with a much more dangerous world, at home and abroad, at least for Westerners.

The Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS will regroup and become stronger and more determined than ever to launch a massive international terrorist campaign against us and the West and the United States in about 5 years. While we are busy dealing with chaos around the world, President Xi can just waltz into Taiwan any time he wants to and expect minimal opposition or resistance.

We do not have Taiwan’s back, despite hollow pledges to the contrary. They (allies) should all be very worried at this point. All these policy developments will diminish international confidence and respect in the U.S. Dollar and for America, leading to a possible future international devaluation of the U.S. Dollar. ( This would spike inflation even more, as imports would become much more costly). Its possible we could experience hyperinflation in 8 years at this rate of spending and debt formation. All depends on domestic confidence.

We can anticipate importing more of our essentials such as food and oil, as we are going to lose our ability to be self-sufficient. We are then going to be in a very dangerous and awkward place soon and nobody but nobody yet sees the danger. We are not able to be a sovereign nation if we need to import food and oil from often antagonistic foreign nations.

Thank you, Craig, as aways. I urge you and others to watch the powerful MSNBC interview that I have posted below these comments.

And yes, the “ripple effects” of Afghanistan may go far and wide, with potentially-devastating effects for the United States and Americans of all different colors, ethnic backgrounds, religious and political preferences.

With respect to Taiwan, its people should be and presumably are “quaking in their boots.” Xi Jinping and others in China’s ruling echelon may believe the Taiwanese will concede and roll over without a fight, similar to Afghanistan.

Contrariwise, I believe Biden may precipitate a war with China over Taiwan. Sound far-fetched? After the Afghan debacle, he and his advisers will have something to prove, and Taiwan may be where it happens.

Tim:

I sincerely hope President Biden starts a War with China. I agree, he will try. This obviously would be a prelude to WWIII. President Xi wants Biden to launch a (new) War in Asia. Why? Because it would result in voters paying for their collective stupidity and hopefully, the gene pool will be reduced as many of them die-off. Afterwards, maybe sensible Americans ( a remnant) can reassert their influence for a better future some day. That day is not now. We first need a Darwinian Purge and the Chinese could do us all a big favor in that regard. It must come from an external source. That is how the world works.

Of Course, the immediate results would be a Military Draft, as our dramatic undermanned Military does not currently have near enough fit and eligible recruits to take-on China. So, one consequence of a Biden War with China would be a draft of all eligible Americans by the Selective Service Commission between the ages of 18 and 25 (Millineals). “You are in the Army now, not behind the plow”

Besides, We can not afford to pay everyone a Universal Basic Income anyway so a new War is a graceful way for Biden to renege on his political/financial support for them. I expect Biden to declare or start a war with both Russia AND China to try to compel them to knuckle-under to his Green New Deal and “Build Back Better” Socialistic Agendas. China and Russia are going to be the ones to say “no” or Net, not U.S. voters. China wants Chinese-Style Socialism, sure not ours. They will fight if pressured.

Craig, I have posted your comments. However, with all due respect, they are outlandish and off the wall.

A war with China or Russia would be devastating. They have nation-ending EMP weapons like we do, along with nuclear arsenals.

You describe it as some long-term “game,” during which we would institute a draft, etc. I served as an Army Captain assigned to the DIA at the Pentagon, before working in the U.S. Senate. Friends of mine were killed in Vietnam.

War with China or Russia would not be a slow-moving game. My God, even the barbaric Taliban have “crushed” and humiliated us in short order.

Please put on you “reality” thinking cap. Again, war is not a game, period.

I apologize if you thought my take on Biden was too complementary or extreme. I just responded to your comment that Biden might try to redeem himself by taking-on China over Taiwan if they made a move first. That would be a major gamble and I would not expect his staff to be so aggressive and stupid. Let them prove me wrong.

A War by any means is not a solution to any problems I know of. Fact is, I doubt we could afford another war financially as our financial condition is not such we could sustain another lengthy war. We also lack the necessary manpower. So, I would be surprised if we got into another war any time soon.

Yes, I agree war is a fast moving game and since China is much closer to Taiwan, it goes without saying we would have limited options and time in which to respond. Just getting there is a major task in itself. We can not project that kind of force overnight in Asia alone and so we probably won’t go there. However, if we did, there would be dire consequences. That should be deterrent enough. If not, what else can I possibly say? China is playing the long game. They think much differently than we do.

Craig said:

“I sincerely hope President Biden starts a War with China.”

“We first need a Darwinian Purge and the Chinese could do us all a big favor in that regard.”

Weird (and I’m being kind) statements. I hate to bring this up, but the Nazis were devout Darwinians that fervently believed in the survival of the fittest. Much of their policies were driven by their Darwinian convictions.

The fact that you are advocating a war that would, no doubt, cost the lives of tens of millions of innocent people is truly evil … and bizarre.

If you truly believe such nonsense, make sure you get the help you need … and do it quick.

VOTERS HAVE SHORT MEMORIES

Clearly, the Biden Administration has cynically made a calculation such as to take the flack for awhile, knowing by next year’s Midterms most voters will have moved-on. Most voters live rather self-contained lives, and moreover, most Americans were not personally invested in this prolonged conflict in Afghanistan. No rationing or other inconveniences for the majority of Americans tied directly to the War in Afghanistan.

How quickly we forget about 9-11 and what it symbolized ( the destruction of our financial crown in the form of the two towers). We lost as many civilians 20 years ago on 9-11 as we did servicemen in Afghanistan over the course of this War. Little sacrifice was made by most Americans, so they are not likely to remember what happened for long.

CHINA WAITS PATIENTLY, THEN ACTS

Truthfully, I don’t think China is all that smart, at least as far as their political leadership goes. Since their leadership does not stand for election every four hears, they are free to think “long term” (20 years) and have long term national policy objectives. We clearly do not have that luxury.

Like our politicians, they just maximize the assets they currently have and play the game, Chinese Style. Its more about mental strategies and the Chinese are historically pretty good at this game. I think they act similar to some of my conventionally-minded and “conservative” neighbors, who keep a low profile ( unless they are wearing a mask) and just bide their time.

Its really all about being sneaky and not forthright or sincere in your motives and intentions in either instance. Show the position, screw the mission, as each party is looking for or jockeying for opportunities to maximize their positions at our expense. The American public never figured-out this is a time when a good defense is invaluable at home or abroad, all things considered. Your real adversary might not be as far away in China, but instead, possibly right next door. Keep that in-mind. Everything of immediate relevance is local.

Thank you, Craig.

The analogy to American politics, especially at the local level, is not apt in my opinion.

Xi Jinping must deliver, or he could be replaced as China’s leader. Also, the Chinese military is a separate power faction, and not under the control of its politicians.

The United States is desperate in Afghanistan, and will become even more desperate there, or so I believe. Now would be an opportune time for China to move on Taiwan.

The Taiwanese will see America flailing in Afghanistan, and tied down like Gulliver and the Lillipians, and realize they do not have a trusted ally in the United States. And our allies in the Pacific (e.g., Japan) are likely to cut and run from us.
