Teslas Must Be Banned From American Roads

6 12 2019

  By Timothy D. Naegele[1]

Josh Saunders has written for the UK’s Daily Mail:

This is the shocking moment a Tesla driver was filmed sleeping behind the wheel as his self-driving car traveled at high speeds.

Clint Olivier captured the passed-out male as his car kept-up with other vehicles on the busy Interstate 5 in Los Angeles, California.

In the footage, a short haired driver can be seen with his head against the window of the black Tesla car and appears to be asleep.

Law states that people using Automated Driving Systems (ADS), including self-driving and autopilot features, ‘must be ready to take back control at any time.’

The clip had been watched more than 138,000 times as of Friday morning.

In the video, Olivier and his wife Alisha Gallon drove alongside the vehicle and at times saw the car speed ahead of them.

‘He[‘]s totally asleep… this is crazy,’ Gallon can be heard saying.

Meanwhile the driver remained sound-asleep throughout[,] only waking-up at the end of the 34 second clip.

Currently 29 states have legislation related to self-driving cars, laws are individually related to manufacturers. While the remaining states currently have no legislation on the book relating to the vehicles.

There are five levels of Automatic Driving System, the first three all require humans to either keep their hands on the wheel or to be ready to intervene at any time.

Levels four and five are currently being developed but have not been installed in vehicles.

These new developments will not require any human intervention other than in ‘certain conditions.’

Self-driving cars work through a series of cameras, radars and sensors, which use radio waves, light pulses and imagery to work out what is in front of the vehicle.

From there the car can adjust its speed to match what is considered to be safe in its surroundings.

[Tesla] CEO Elon Musk announced in May that all new models of the 3, X and S, have full self-driving capabilities.

Other car manufacturers also produce a range of automated driving systems[.][2]

This is not the first time that this has happened, by any stretch of the imagination. It is clear that the Tesla is an “accident waiting to happen,” and that it must be banned from American roads.

American and international lawyers may gear up for major class action lawsuits that will put the company out of business—and have it join the ranks of the DeLorean, Edsel and massive numbers of auto brands that no longer exist, and are in the dustbin of automotive history.

Also, Luke Kenton has written for the Daily Mail

Dozens of Tesla drivers in California were forced to wait in an extensive line after what should’ve been a quick stop at a Supercharger station turned into an hours-long ordeal.

Shanon Stellini was travelling through Kettleman City on November 30 when she stumbled across a backlog of around 50 of the electric cars waiting to recharge in a half-mile line outside of at a station near Interstate 5.

‘Bet they wish they had gas’, quipped Stellini’s partner in a video she captured of the chaos – but for the drivers stranded in the stagnant line the issue was certainly no laughing matter.

The Kettleman City Supercharger station – located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco – is already immensely popular, but even with 40 charging stalls on-site the facility was still overrun by the overwhelming demand that one of the year’s busiest travel times brings.

To make matters worse, simultaneous re-charging slows down the speed of charging for everyone – encumbering a process that can already take up to as long as 75 minutes.

It’s unclear how long the Tesla drivers were forced to wait, however, one disgruntled commuter tweeted that he’d been waiting in the line for 40 minutes but only appeared to be ‘half way there’.

With Tesla’s Model 3 now being produced in mass, there are currently thought to be more than 400,000 Teslas on the roads of America.

But the surge in popularity has exposed a series of flaws in the Supercharger network’s operations this holiday season, which is sure to give the Elon Musk-owned company food for thought as the fallout seen in Kettleman City was not an isolated incident.

A day earlier, a video titled ‘Tesla Energy Crisis’ revealed a sizable line of 15 Teslas waiting for their turn at a Supercharger station in San Luis Obispo around 4.45pm on Thanksgiving day

Teslas could be seen wrapping around the outer edge of the Madonna Inn as families waited inside the running cars for a chance to refuel.

For a Model S Tesla at a Supercharger station, it will take about 20 minutes to charge 50 percent and 40 minutes to charge 80 percent.

Tesla’s website says that drivers will have enough to finish their trip on 80 percent, but owners can reach 100 percent fueled in 75 minutes.

Tesla’s Supercharger stations are described as the ‘world’s fastest charging network’ on the company’s website.

‘Supercharger stations are conveniently located near desirable amenities like restaurants, shops and WiFi hotspots. Each station contains multiple Superchargers to get you back on the road quickly,’ the company said.

It’s unclear how long the car owners waited to reach a Supercharger, but the video’s owner said the station was just given new equipment to help with the influx of holiday travelers.

‘The previous day, Tesla brought a Megapack that is said to be good for charging [approximately] 100 Teslas,’ the video post said.

Social media users shared photos of the Supercharger stations accompanied with Megapack chargers arriving to San Luis Obispo on Wednesday morning.

‘Megapack,’ a new massive energy storage product, was launched by Tesla in July and is being used in portable Supercharger stations to help bolster the company’s charging infrastructure.

Megapack will also be used in installations like the Moss Landing project in California with PG&E, which is a part of a new cost-effective energy storage project announced in June.

‘To match global demand for massive battery storage projects like Hornsdale, Tesla designed and engineered a new battery product specifically for utility-scale projects: Megapack,’ the company said in a blog.

During instances when Tesla drivers are expected to make long trips, like the holiday season, the tech company can roll out Mobile Supercharger units powered by Megapacks to several locations.

The US, parts of Asia, Europe and the Middle East have a combined total of 1,636 Supercharger Stations with 14,497 Superchargers.[3]

California, in particular, has experienced energy “blackouts,” which have affected millions of its residents and may last for another decade.  Its electric utility PG&E has imposed mandatory cessations of electric power ostensibly to reduce the risks of fires triggered by the company’s network.  Presumably vehicles like the Tesla become immovable “dead weights” when this occurs, which further exposes Tesla owners to the risks of serious injuries or deaths if they are unable to escape the raging infernos.

Their limited ranges when compared with gasoline-powered vehicles, the problems with disposing of Tesla batteries safely from an ecological standpoint, the absence of dealerships that can fix Tesla problems, the staggering debts that Tesla has incurred, all augur for major problems with the Tesla.  There is also the risk that the company’s founder will implode psychologically as many of his fellow bipolar sufferers have done over time.

Will the Tesla survive?  The odds are against it; however, it is not dead and buried yet.  It has loyal followers—and vast numbers of detractors who consider it the “badge” of America’s ultra-Left and eco-Nazis, and concur that it must be banned.

Tesla On Autopilot Rear-Ends A Police Car [UPDATED]

Lauren Edmonds has written for the UK’s Daily Mail:

A Tesla on autopilot crashed into a Connecticut State Police cruiser before rear-ending a disabled car while the suspected driver was ‘checking on his dog in the back seat.’

The Connecticut State Police said in a press release that two troopers dispatched to Interstate 95 in Norwalk to help a disabled vehicle that was stuck in the center lane.

They maintain that both police cruisers had their emergency lights activated and an additional flare pattern behind the vehicles.

While waiting for a tow truck to remove the disabled vehicle, a 2018 Tesla Model 3 was driving northbound slammed into one of the police cruisers and then collided with the disabled car.

The Tesla driver continued to slowly travel down the highway for several hundred feet before being stopped by the second state trooper at the scene.

When confronted by authorities, the owner said he had his vehicle on ‘autopilot’ and was attending to his pet in the backseat at the time.

‘[The suspect] explained that he was checking on his dog which was in the back seat prior to hitting the collision,’ Connecticut State Police said.

The driver was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

No one involved in the crashes were seriously injured, but authorities maintain that drivers must keep their full attention on the road.

Connecticut State Police said: ‘According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, although a number of vehicles have some automated capabilities, there are no vehicles currently for sale that are fully automated or self-driving.’

Tesla’s company describe their auto-pilot feature as one that assists drivers in the most ‘burdensome’ driving situations.

‘Autopilot introduces new features and improves existing functionality to make your Tesla safer and more capable over time,’ they wrote.

The auto-pilot feature enables Tesla’s to ‘steer, accelerate and brake automatically within its lane,’ but still require driver supervision.

‘Current Autopilot features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous,’ they said.

Bloomberg released a survey in November detailing Tesla Model 3 owners’ opinion on various features equipped in their high-tech cars.

According to the survey, 13 percent of owners say Autopilot has put them in danger while 28 percent say it has saved them from dangerous situations.

Six drivers admit Autopilot has contributed to a collision, while nine owners say the system helped keep them alive.

Hundreds of owners shared dangerous system behaviors they experienced while on Autopilot, including phantom breaking, failing to stop for a road hazard and veering.

A driver in California said: ‘During one of its automatic lane changes into a lane behind a semi, it SLAMMED on my brakes for no reason. The cars behind me managed to avoid rear ending me.’

Regardless of the incident, Model 3 owners ranked Autopilot high in overall ratings.

The car was given a 4.49 out of five for Autopilot safety and a 4.15 for ‘Full Self Driving.’

Around 90 percent of Model 3 drivers say the Tesla’s software for automated driving for parking lots and highways make them feel safer.

See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7767627/Tesla-autopilot-rear-ends-cop-car-driver-checked-dog-backseat.html (“Tesla on autopilot rear-ends a cop car and then slams into a pedestrian vehicle as the driver ‘checked on their dog in the backseat'”) (emphasis added; chart and video omitted); see also https://news.yahoo.com/lofty-promises-autonomous-cars-unfulfilled-014746257.html (“Lofty promises for autonomous cars unfulfilled“)

Again, Teslas are dangerous and must be banned from American roads. Nothing less will suffice.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN “THINKING” IS ON AUTOPILOT

“Around 90 percent of Tesla Model 3 drivers say the Tesla’s software for automated driving for parking lots and highways make them feel safer”. After all they paid a premium for Tesla and can not afford to admit they were wrong. So, in certain instances, emotion overrules logic or even basic common sense (survival).

I suspect the same physiological mechanism is at work regarding the House’s continued actions to formally Impeach President Trump. Nancy Pelosi intends to draft Articles of Impeachment and forward them to the U.S. Senate for trial sometime next year ( after Christmas ). Hate never sleeps.

Elon Musk is Just Another Broke (Tech.) Billionaire

I think we are witnessing the Massacre of the Unicorns. All these billionaire tech. CEO’s and quite a few lesser Software Developers can leverage their paper profits into tangible assets, such as Elon Musk’s recent purchase of a Mansion in Bel Air, Calif. Its all based on debt, credit, and leverage. However, when the House of Cards comes tumbling down with lower stock valuations, we see real estate deflation and lower income tax receipts for the State of Calif. (FTB). What’s next to Calif. when the Silicone Valley profit center shrinks?

Just as long as capital is cheap (free) or easy, big corporate borrowers can leverage it into all sorts of tangible assets, primarily high-end Calif. real estate. Financial Kingdoms enabled by FED ultra low interest rate paradigm. It does not matter if the economic engine are (tech) companies with negative cash flow and little or no profits. Fake Money, Fake Economy, Fake News. Its all one big illusion, like the Emperor with No Cloths. Living in the Stupid Era. No Joke.

Thank you, Craig.

Yes, I have thought for years that the “balloon” would burst again, far worse than the “Great Recession” of 2008, but it hasn’t happened yet. Problems were “papered over,” not resolved.

Economic history is replete with periodic depressions and deep recessions. And yes too, the hyper-inflated property values might come tumbling down. But again, the “day of reckoning ” has not occurred.

No one knows when it will. Guesses don’t count for anything.

Get ready for some bargain prices ( once in a lifetime) as the ongoing Depression further develops. A Mansion in Bel Air? Quite possibly if you really want it. Keep your powder dry, as they say.

LITTLE KNOW TESLA FACTS

First of all, since there are no Tesla Dealerships with a service dept like Ford, you can only get warranty service from a field technician. During the standard 3-year new car warranty, the Tesla technician comes directly to your house and services your Tesla. However, once the 3-year period expires, you are on your own. The cost of service goes-up markedly and you are put at the back of the line, as priority goes to warranty service calls first.

Most Tesla buyers don’t know this. Therefore, Tesla is best ONLY for those who lease, not buy. Post warranty service support is weak and you can not order parts yourself to DIY. Only Tesla technicians can order new Tesla replacement parts, as there is no aftermarket for them, as yet.

TESLA STOCK RETURNS, INFLATION, AND LA DULCE VIDA

Regardless of what you think of Elon Musk or Tesla, the Company, realize that its stock price has appreciated 18,000 % in the past ten years ! Microsoft is only up 400% over the same time period. I WISH I had believed in Elon Musk, the entrepreneur and bought just 100 shares. Would be drinking pina colata on a private Caribbean Island with white sandy beaches blue ocean. Alas, none of us had the “vision thing” where it really counts *$$$)

I could have then bought one of the two islands previously owned by Jeffrey Epstein in the U.S. Virgin Islands. ( Trump entered a contract to buy both said islands for about $ 115 Million. ) There are two ways to beat inflation: Invest in a company like Tesla or buy underpriced hard assets and hold long term because the inflation cycle is just revving-up. Never bet against Elon Musk unless you want to lose a bet.

ALL THOSE TRILLIONS OF PRINTED MONEY ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST. It may even officially exceed 21% per year by the end of this decade. (Commodity Super-cycle is underway, or at leas the first leg up ( Wave #1). Early Tesla investors can easily outrun any rate of inflation. However, I am not so sure about the Tax Man, who has a race car.

Again, my comment was directed at self-driving cars and trucks, such as the one in the article that I cited, which was involved in the accident. They are menaces, which should be banned.

I began being critical of Musk, but changed my mind because of his SpaceX successes, which are very impressive.

With respect to Teslas, my thoughts are set forth in the article above and comments beneath it, which I will not repeat.

Regarding inflation, and the trajectory of the economy, what goes up can come down, sometimes with a crash. Our economy is overheated beyond belief; and several factors may change that (e.g., the tightening by the Fed; an expansion of the war in Ukraine; China’s assault on Taiwan).

Conventional wisdom supports your conclusions.

CAPITAL SHORTAGES & COSTS WILL LIMIT ADOPTION OF EV’S

Tsla is profitable. Elon Musk is awesome! His global Starlink satellite wireless internet system (Space X ) is magnificent. In-fact, TSLA has 50% of the EV passenger car market. However, no more than 7% of autos are EV’s. TSLA is a fast growing company but starting from a tiny base, as was the internet and online shopping for its first 25 years. Growth from here will take years to double market share.

There are still lots of “brick and mortar” retail stores around in spite of Amazon. Of course, adoption of new technology happens much faster nowadays. People don’t want an EV for their sole car. The TSLA 3 is now actually priced $6,500 less than the BMW 3 Series cars, its nearest competitor. ( Both are small cars). Gas and diesel powered vehicles will remain the backbone of our transportation system nationally.

States like California that mess around with transportation by trying regulate traditional shipping & force conversion to EV trucks will suffer shortages and higher overall costs ( inflation), making their economies and consumers suffer. It may be harder to ship out-of-state products into Calif. other than by rail, assuming its still permitted. Calif. might just become essentially a closed market with attendant higher costs all-around. ( Think of the retail market in the Old U.S.S.R. with empty shelves, long lines, and high prices)

TSLA fast-charging stations (tech). are not yet widely available outside of key urban markets where there is sufficient population density. It may be a very long time until you can drive in any direction and just pull-over and conveniently recharge. In-addition, the increasing cost of capital may doom green technologies in-general, no matter how much money the govt. throws at it.

Time will tell how this conversion to Green “works” but for the foreseeable future, EV’s are only a niche’ market, not a mass market vehicle. Besides, our electric grid system is old and out-of-date. We don’t have the necessary funding available to upgrade all three grids in their entirety. So, our existing electrical grids simply can’t handle the additional load of millions of EV’s driving around and recharging every night.

Therefore, power rationing ( rolling blackouts) would likely become necessary in States like California inorder to manage periodic shortages of electricity ( Its not so easy as recharging a cell phone). “Back in the U.S.S.R., you don’t know……how lucky your are….”

Very true, Craig, and very cleverly written. Yes, indeed: “Back in the U.S.S.R.. . .”

As I have mentioned before, I was in Berlin when the U.S.S.R collapsed and the “Iron Curtain” fell. Soviet troops were selling their uniforms and plumbing fixtures from their barracks, and going back to “tent cities” in today’s Russia.

And yes too, Vladimir Putin remembers the humiliation that took place . . .

MERCURIAL ELON, VOLATILE TESLA

As long as state and Federal government policies favor EV’s, there will still be a Tesla and for sure a Elon Musk, whether in space on down here on-the-ground. Elon’s global satellite based internet service, Starlink, is expected to go public in about 5 more years or even sooner ( when this bear market is long gone).

It may be a blockbuster. Meanwhile, I keep making money on TSLA buying the dips and selling the highs, as it’s a very volatile stock. Buy low, sell high and make money. So, whether our energy grid survives the ravages of government neglect or a possible future EMP attack (WWIII) . . . or an eventual financial/currency collapse remains to be seen. Obviously, you are a shrewd investor; and deserve congratulations.

My guess is that Biden will be gone “soon,” and that EV sales will “plateau.” To support this conclusion, I will recite articles that I have mentioned previously.

EV’S ARE BIDEN’S = 1979 SYNFUELS BOONDOGGLE

I read them already but agree, and “No”, I don’t own an EV. The industry is way ahead of the general public and the early adopters already own their Teslas. EV’s are o.k. perhaps as a second car but remain too expensive and are “not my cup of tea”. EV’s are not practical. So often, If you want a new car that is readily available, its probably going to be a EV or at least a Hybrid ( e.g. Ford Bronco) for now anyway.

New gas powered sedans are still few and far between since the Big 3 reduced their line of conventional models and vehicle production in the U.S. Market, post-Covid. Gasoline autos are still premium priced for now. Import luxury cars are very expensive, as the smallest BMW ( 2-series) MSRP is $37,000. So, the quality that once defined BMW autos is gone forever. ( Money pit after 5 years )

Its going to be a couple more years or so until the supply issues are resolved and hopefully, reflected in Dealer Inventories on their lots and showrooms. Not at all sure if the auto industry is ever returning to the old sales model on account of competitive pressure from Elon Musk’s dealer free model. The terms of the new UAW Union agreement won’t help the Big 3’s profitability either. They could end up like the Big 8 Accounting Firms in 1999. Big 3 become the Big Two and perhaps eventually, The BIG ONE !

One more thought about the popular rubric “Climate Change”. It’s a flimsy excuse for all kinds of anti-consumer policies such as heightened wildfire risk zones where none ever occurred and property insurance cancellations or big premium increases on the basis of alleged changes in climate (Global Warming). Regardless, it remains a political reality just as much as if the voters truly believe it or not. It’s not a choice and nobody voted for it.

I look at climate change the same way I do as regards Bureau of Labor statistics (BLS) unemployment numbers or the current official inflation rate (3%/year). Simple fact: They ALL LIE.

So, it’s just more of officialdom’s ready excuses to screw consumers/taxpayers and extract extra money while disinvesting in our electrical grid and power generation capacity, as before. Simple Truth: We can not afford to invest in critical infrastructure because we are instead spending too much $ on expensive wars, social programs and foreign aid.

We are not managing our natural resources (Oil) in a wise manner and are not competent at governing ourselves anymore on account of widespread official corruption. Fall of Rome v 2.0

Again, thoughtful comments, with which I agree for the most part.

Those who want Teslas — and love them — may have them already, and may simply upgrade to the newest version. And yes, they may be second cars for many families, where the charging is done at home, and the use is “local.”

The new Honda Accords and Civics are nice sedans, for those who don’t want or need something larger like an SUV.

Will dealers and/or automakers disappear? My sense is that Mercedes, VW, Volvo (owned by the Chinese) and other European automakers will have serious problems when all they offer in the U.S. are EVs.

As I have said for years, man-made “global warming” is a hoax. Our planet has gone through warming and cooling cycles for millions of years, which will continue after each of us is long gone. Pollution is a separate issue, with India and China being the biggest polluters globally.

I agree with you regarding costly and senseless foreign wars. One might think that we had learned lessons from Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, but apparently not. Right now we have two carrier strike groups in the Middle East, which cost a fortune and are “sitting ducks” for an attack by an adversary or so-called “friend.”

LIVING UNDER A LATTER DAY EMPEROR NERO

One more thought: We have 3 more years of Gavin Newsom and even though he has vetoed hundreds of spending bills, he also signed a few this Fall. Net increase in spending when we have a deficit. Notice all the new highway improvement projects in the past 12 months? Its all optics.

After listening to Victor David Hanson talk about why the cost of living keeps going-up for everyone in California he said Gov. Newsom only delayed the closure of our last nuclear power plant in Diablo Canyon. Once Gov. Newsom’s political ambitions are “satiated” ( after next year’s election) and he is still sitting as governor in 2025 and beyond ” He will eventually close Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant” .

Currently we are just about in an overall perfect balance with regards to supply and demand for electricity in Calif. However, once Diablo Canyon is closed-down permanently then the demand side will probably overwhelm the supply side, at least during seasonal periods of peak demand, such as August ( to run air conditioning systems).

Unfortunately, we will not be able to buy sufficient surplus power from neighboring States in the peak summer heat, as other states such as Utah would be expected to take care of their own customers first. Nobody has sufficient “rolling reserves” any more. So, we are right up to the upper limits of power supply at certain times.

Double digit rate increases from local utilities are becoming the norm in an attempt to encourage conservation (“Smart Meters”) . Some residents have their own passive solar systems, as well. Roof mounted solar systems do reduce your monthly celerity bills to about $30 I have been told, so over the long term the investment pays-off. ( Figure 10 years or so )

The expected result of foreseeable lack of supply of electricity is not surprising to even non-engineers: increased frequency of “rolling black-outs” lasting several hours or more and causing food spoilage at grocery stores. The period of time where this is most apt to occur is in the evening when solar is not a meaningful generator of extra power. Building temperatures peak several hours after the peak outdoor temperature occurs. This lag always occurs.

The single biggest problem for solar affectionados is when the utility shuts-down power delivery, home (passive) solar systems also shut-down concurrently unless you have a back-up gas generator wired-in to your electric panel ( for $15,000 installation costs).

Natural gas prices are also on the rise as Calif. is a net importer of natural gas even though we have the single largest underground reserves of ANY other state (Undeveloped by State Policy). These are the energy policy California elites want and they can afford the costs, while the other half of Californians can not.

I can easily envision a train-wreck up ahead and so far, nobody seems to care either way. How about urban riots on a Hot August Night this coming Summer and then, eventual lock-down orders from King Gavin to control rising urban (civil) unrest statewide? Good luck selling a house at market after this scenario plays-out and the word gets around. After all this occurs, will voters care? Too little, too late for anyone older than 50. Fall of Rome v. 20

One important addition: how will the eco-Nazis charge their EVs during the blackouts/brownouts?

Also, I have hiked the magnificent Montaña de Oro State Park to the Diablo Canyon overlook, just north of it, many times. The nuclear power plant will be a political football for a long time to come.

And will there be riots? Did the sun rise this morning?

CALIFORNIA GOES TO “UNCLE SUGAR” FOR EXTRA FUNDING

Two Initiatives on the Nov. 2024 Ballot:

One new proposed amendment (AB-1) would be to allow increases in both Prop. 13 taxes on top of any attendant new bonded indebtedness on a County basis. This is a less than straightforward initiative titled funding “Housing for the Homeless” or something to that effect.

What it really says deep down is to replace the 2/3 majority requirement for any new (property) tax rate increases with only a 55% requirement. Seems harmless, right? See if the voters agree or not.

The other initiative (AB-32) would increase the requirement to LOWER a tax from 55% to 2/3 Majority vote. Seems like this one would not be passable but you really never know for sure with today’s Calif. voters. Wait and see a year.

The state won’t eliminate any existing programs, require a serious audit to determine program effectiveness ( homeless funding) and even better, stop increasing the overall state budget EVERY year come Hell or High Water. The trend in state spending is nearly always up to some degree and never down overall. Biden enables and funds Big Blue States like California with Federal tax monies extracted from other state’s resident taxpayers. President Obama did likewise for 8 years, as well.

Since the State can not print money like the FED’s, they can always borrow more money from the Muni-Bond Markets or U.S. Bankers and incur more bonded indebtedness and/or raise taxes. Taxes will further increase under Gov. Gavin Newsom, as will utility rates and gasoline taxes, to name a few.

Increasingly, China, not the U.S., will be establishing the rules-of-the-road as far as global trade goes. To me the transition now in-play is similar to after William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings in 1099 and conquered England. The King of England died from an arrow during the battle.  Common people (serfs) had little idea what happened and went about their everyday lives, such as they were. Gradually subtle changes in English society were implemented such as new architectural styles reflecting Saxon tastes, for example. The Barons were more likely informed as to the changes but went along with them and probably intermarried, as well. Life for the commoners did not improve.

Today, Chinese funded Joe Biden is opening our borders and forever changing American culture and society. We are being conquered by the Chinese and the Russians. We are powerless to overcome our elected political leaders. The smart elites will partner with wealthy foreigners and intermarry, as the English once did with the new Saxons. In-fact, the membership in the California Club already reflects these changed social realities. I learned Spanish in High School in 1973. Today, astute students need to learn Mandarin Chinese to be successful in the new global order. Changing times demand one adapt or become history.

Tim: You can not stop technology nor progress. I want to be a luddite but the pace of our society will not allow it for long. Let’s take this commentary from Keith Fitz-Gerald’s free daily, “Morning 5 with Fitz” today about TSLA’s progress and profitable future: $$$ “Elon announced recently that Tesla’s FSD tech has now accumulated more than 1Billions miles of data. (Read)  This means Tesla now has the:  – world’s biggest, most detailed collection of street maps  – most concentrated repository of driving habits  – largest single current look at road conditions

It’s a gold mine that isn’t even remotely factored into share prices.

Think about it.  – Tesla could get into the car insurance business and vaporize traditional players.   – Or create a data model that is then licensed to competitors, virtually all of which are working on some form of FSD.   – Robotaxis have caught the public’s imagination, but the real uptake will be delivery services and so-called “last mile” logistics.

This is straight outta Apple’s wearables subscriptions playbook.  I know what I’ll be doing. ”  Forecast: 2X-3X share price within 5 years or so.

However, all is not assured, as Elon is increasingly nervous, as global EV powerhouse BYD is fast gaining ground, as an increasingly nervous (sweaty) Elon looks fearfully into his rear view mirror. BYD is accelerating and about to pass Elon in the “fast lane” while driving his TSLA (clunker). Market is bullish on BYDDY and bearish on TSLA. Shades of things to come. Investors need to own both going forward to reap the profits from “progress”. In-fact, Mercedes just got Transportation Dept. approval to offer customers a FSD model, while TSLA did not. The reason is simple: Elon bought Twitter X and allows Free Speech, while Biden is offended. No waiver for FSV for TSLA under Biden. Domestic Politics. Chinese see an opportunity and are taking it. Consequently, Ford and GM will get crunched by a coming flood of Chinese BYDDY EV imports. So, You and I have basically two options:

Thank you, Craig, as always.

First, California is a totally-wacko state, which is viewed as such by most Americans.

Second, the dealers can’t sell EVs; the public does not want them.

Third, China is our mortal enemy. Most Americans realize that, and will boycott what they sell.

Fourth, EVs are damaging our highways, and crashing through metal guardrails because of their weight.

Fifth, try to find charging stations when you really need them.

Sixth, self-driving Teslas are “accidents waiting to happen.”

See, e.g., https://mol.im/a/13314593 (“Tesla ‘halts’ Cybertruck deliveries due to potentially fatal flaw”)

Whatever you choose to believe regarding the intelligence of the average public school-educated American Idiot or voter, please realize the minute a $25,0000 dollar MSRP, fully-loaded EV is available to new car buyers ( BYDD) again, the market will switch over to EV’s in most cities nationwide even without Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act tax subsidies and financial incentives. Just not ready, as yet.

American consumers are primarily economically motivated, self-interested and sure not politically motivated. This means they have no brand or even national loyalty in the end and as a matter-of-fact, neither do many of our Senators or Congressmen of either political party any more.

In-addition, markets don’t care. Remember how GM went from a 50% market share to only a 20% market share in only ten years from 1974-1984. ( 1973: “What’s good for America is good for GM”). Japanese economical (affordable), high mileage cars quickly stole the domestic market, as the Chinese are about to do in a few. History repeats.

The EV revolution is coming, like it or not. ( By the way, as a consumer & American, I do not like). I often am outvoted by my countrymen. However, As an investor, I too am agnostic and like $$$$. Most Americans know a good thing which is NOT GM, Ford, or Stellantis (Jeep, Chrysler) any more. In-fact, Jeep is made today in low cost Poland. Progress again. In ten years, new homes will be required by building codes to include a 250v fast (EV) charger in states like California. Changes are coming. America won’t ever be the same after this decade.
